History of Anatomy

In the past, due to the opposition of people, the human body was not dissected and the only country whose scientists were pioneers in this science was Iran because in Zoroastrian and Avestan books, priests were allowed to dissect the bodies of those sentenced to death. BC was the first person to study anatomy, and the first dead body was described in the 4th century BC by Erasistratus and Herphilos on those killed during the battles of Alexander the Great. The first Muslim medical information on anatomy came from the translation of Galen's works, although Galen himself believed that Hippocrates was more knowledgeable in anatomy than he was. John Ibn Maswiyyah was perhaps the first physician to practice medicine in the Islamic era, and for this purpose, he raised and described an ape, and based on it he wrote a book which, although it was the most important and famous book in its time, is, unfortunately, one of it today. There is no trace left.

Sur ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yusuf ibn Elias Shirazi wrote the first book of illustrated illustrations in Persian, thus creating a great change in the science of explaining the human body for the first time. This book has new materials and methods for categorizing and presenting the knowledge of description, and in addition, the author has ignored the religious commands to respect the human image, has used the art of illustration and has created a beautifully illustrated book.

In Europe, Luizzi and Achillini first dissected corpses in the 14th to 16th centuries. People like Leonardo da Vinci and Rembrandt took beautiful pictures of the human body that showed the anatomy of the body well. In Iran, Dr Direct was one of the most prominent professors of anatomy who, after learning this science from Dr Blair, began to develop and advance the science of anatomy in Iran (Shiraz University of Medical Sciences). This professor is nicknamed the father of anatomy in Iran. Anatomy progressed greatly in the 19th century until Grays anatomy became a global reference and is now taught in most Iranian medical universities.

Department of Anatomy Ilam University of Medical Sciences

Department of Anatomy, Ilam University of Medical Sciences, consists of two departments: Anatomy and Histology. Which started its activity in 1997 with the admission of medical students and from 2010 until now with the admission of undergraduate students has trained an expert and efficient in this field. The educational and research activities of the group are in the field of anatomy, histology and embryology, and of course, projects in the field of stem cells and medicinal plants have been done and the results have been published in journals. The group has 10 master's degree graduates so far and currently has 11 master's degree students in the group. After entering the semester, the students determine their research topic by appointing a supervisor and at the discretion of the anatomy department, and at the same time passing the educational units, they also do research work.
